Dr. Michiel S. Kritzinger is said to have been one of the most experienced and skilled refractive and LASIK eye surgeons around the world. His contributions included LASIK Nomogram software development. He also held U.S. patents on instruments and LASIK techniques.
Dr. Kritzinger was the first to introduce LASIK to South Africa. He was one of the founders of the South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (SASCRS). The Kritzinger Safari Lecture is a highlighted event of the SASCRS Congress, commemorating the life of Dr. Kritzinger, who died tragically in a helicopter crash on 28 April 2000.
