2017 Kritzinger Memorial Award: Dr. Boris Malyugin

Boris E. Malyugin MD, PhD is the professor of ophthalmology, Deputy Director General (R&D, Edu) at the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Institution in Moscow, Russia. Dr. Malyugin is the President of the Russian Ophthalmology Society and Board member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is a member of International Intraocular Implant Club and Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis.

Dr. Malyugin established himself as an internationally recognized expert in advanced anterior segment surgery. He has pioneered several innovative technologies. Dr. Malyugin is well known for his development of the Malyugin Ring to be used in small pupil cataract surgery.  

Dr. Malyugin is a world-renowned for his educational activities in Russia and abroad. He is having multiple international awards. He is the only person awarded with the Cornelius Binkhorst Award both by ASCRS and ESCRS. Dr. Malyugin participated with invited lectures and live surgery sessions in numerous national and supranational meetings. 

Dr. Malyugin has published in the literature extensively, co-edited several books in various fields of ophthalmology, and contributed to the printed and video versions of Atlas of Ophthalmic Surgery and Video Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Malyugin serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, EyeNet, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today, Eurotimes, Ocular Surgery News, EyeWorld, Ophthalmologist. He is a Chief Medical Editor of the Ophthalmosurgery Journal (Russian) and Russian Eurotimes as well. 

Thanks to his efforts, the Russian ophthalmological school founded by Prof. S. Fyodorov kept its worldwide reputation.
